Sue McKinney, MA, LCPC

With years of experience as a therapist, I believe therapy works best when you feel genuinely heard, understood, and supported. My experience spans the lifespan, from children and older adolescents to adults and older adults. I’ve spent many years working in behavioral health, including in a behavioral health hospital setting, as well as many years in private practice.

I work with people dealing with anxiety and OCD, depression and other mood disorders, including perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, parenting and family concerns, adoption and foster care issues, grief and loss, relationship challenges, and life transitions. I particularly enjoy working with teachers and other education professionals who are managing the unique stresses and demands that come with their work.

My approach is grounded in evidence-based practices, but I believe therapy is about more than just using the “right” technique. It’s about building a relationship where you feel comfortable being yourself, talking honestly, and figuring out what will actually be helpful for you. I’m compassionate and supportive, but also practical—and I believe there’s usually room for a little humor along the way. My goal is to make therapy feel comfortable, down-to-earth, and like a place where you can work through life’s challenges without judgment.
